Technical Management

Gordon Edwards, VP of Technology

Gordon brings over 20 years of experience in the architecture and development of enterprise systems, management of engineering teams, and the application of advanced technologies in creating innovative business solutions. He currently serves as the Vice President of Technology, where he is responsible for identifying strategic technologies, early stage development of new products, and overseeing all architecture initiatives. Gordon has most recently led the integration of Nexidia's phonetic technology into corporate telephony infrastructures and has studied the application of machine learning techniques to speech analytics. Having held senior architecture and engineering positions at ChoicePoint, S1, BellSouth, MCI, Lockheed-Martin, HBOC, LexisNexis, and SofTech, his previous experience ranges from architecting internet banking applications to the development of real-time operating systems for the Navy's EP-3 and ES-3 aircraft. Gordon holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Wright State University.

James Delmerico, VP, Software Engineering

James has over 12 years of leadership experience in designing and building award-winning enterprise class software across a variety of industries, including banking analytics, gaming, eCommerce and legal support systems.  Prior to joining Nexidia, James held positions at Scientific Games, IPS-Sendero, Extreme Logic (acquired by HP), and Esquire Communications.

As Vice President of Software Engineering, James is responsible for all aspects of product engineering, including development, test, and quality assurance.  He created Nexidia’s agile software development environment and has built its high-performing, integrated teams with an emphasis on sustainable, quality-focused engineering activities.

Peter Cardillo, Co-Founder and Director of Research & Development

Peter worked extensively in the development of Nexidia’s Audio-Voice Search technology while a Masters student and PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His area of specialization is speech processing and recognition. He has worked on commercial applications in the area of speech recognition and speech compression with Lanier Worldwide. Peter holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Marsal Gavalda, VP of Incubation and Principal Language Scientist

Dr. Marsal Gavalda is an expert in languages and technology and has over 15 years of experience building computer systems that understand aspects of human language. Gavalda holds a PhD in Language and Information Technologies and a MS in Computational Linguistics, both from Carnegie Mellon University, and a BS in Computer Science from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain). Prior to joining Nexidia as Vice President of Incubation and Principal Language Scientist, Gavalda served as Director of Language Technologies at Dictaphone and as Senior Research Scientist at M*Modal. Every summer Gavalda directs a course on science and technology at the Universitat Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Barcelona (Spain). Gavalda is the author of over 30 scholarly publications and half a dozen patents and speaks six languages fluently.

Mark Finlay, Research Manager

Mark has over 20 years experience as both a software developer and manager, including co-founding several companies and starting his own firm and serving as president.  He has worked as a chief technical officer, principal system architect, systems engineer, product manager, and project manager as well as a designer and implementer of a broad range of applications in a wide variety of software environments. His experience ranges from architecting, designing, and developing custom embedded software & hardware for flight simulation to developing advanced imaging applications for analyzing satellite imagery.

In his career, Mark has managed and led several large software teams in the development of complex applications for delivery to government and commercial clients around the world. Prior to Nexidia, Mark served as chief technical officer and co-founder of TrueShopping, Inc., as president and co-founder of Atlanta Innovation, Inc. and as co-founder of IVEX Corporation. Mark has authored one patent and holds a BS in both Mathematics and Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a MS in EE from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
