Demo 06: A Dating Service for Startups

This year's Demo 06, the conference that puts startup hopefuls before an audience of high-tech investors, will feature an eclectic assortment of search, database, open source, and RSS technologies from 68 presenters.

Several startups are jumping into the burgeoning sector of enterprise search. Nexidia, for example, will launch Media Search, a multimedia search engine aimed at rich-media heavy enterprises such as ad agencies and marketing companies. The product can find any spoken word in an audio or video broadcast in 28 different languages.

Transparensee BestMatch Search Engine, from Transparensee Systems, promises to bolster ecommerce site search. The technology allows users to search by both keyword and metadata to find similar products even when no exact match exists.

Hoping to ease database complexity, Panoratio Database Images, spun out of the Siemens Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Laboratory, is launching its portable database imaging and analysis software. The solution consists of the Panoratio Generator, which creates interactive images of complex databases that are small enough to run in the memory of a laptop, and the Panoratio Explorer, a visual analysis tool that helps users discover patterns in the data.

Also at the show, Jitterbit will unveil its Open Edition open-source integration tool that will run on both Windows and Linux. The company provides both the binary and source code and says its drag-and-drop mapping tool can move data between various system interfaces.

Finally, RSS will no longer be the domain of technocrats if SimpleFeed has its way. SimpleFeed will allow customers to subscribe to company information using an RSS feed and an individualized URL.
